The outskirts of Newquay represents a mix of magnificent coastlines, fabulous beaches, crystal clear seas, marine filled rock pools and the most wonderful views to take your breath away. All of the beaches are no more than a fifteen minute drive from the centre of Newquay, so jump in the car and enjoy these beautiful beaches, you won't be disappointed!
Crantock Beach Crantock Beach is situated to the West of Newquay about a fifteen minute drive from the centre of Newquay Town. This large beach has a wide stretch of golden sand and is backed by sand dunes, so it makes a perfect spot for a picnic. It is also a great place to swim and surf and at the far end of the beach you will reach West Pentire with rocky pools and a wave cut platform making it an ideal spot for diving and snorkelling. It is advisable to swim towards the left hand side of this great beach as to the right of the beach it meets the River Gannel estuary and this results in currents. Surfing at Crantock beach is good for beginners if conditions are not too big. It has a fairly good beach break and the river flowing out on the right side can build good sand bars. Basic equipment is available to hire for beginners.

Beach Access - from A3075 follow signs to Crantock Village from there you can drive to the beach car park. Crantock Beach be reached by the local bus service or the ferry from the Fernpit Cafe. Holywell Bay Beach Holywell Bay is a large West facing sandy beach with sand dunes and is an ideal beach for families. There is a shallow stream that runs down the beach making it perfect for paddling in. Even at high tide there is still plenty of space on Holywell Beach. At low tide there is a large cave accessible on the north side but be careful as the rocks can be slippery. Level Access to the beach and dog friendly beach all year (on lead).

Porth Beach Porth Beach is located about a five minute drive to the North of Newquay. Porth Beach is in a sheltered location which makes it one of the safest beaches around Newquay for swimming. The beach has parking close and the easy access makes it an ideal beach for those people with walking difficulties. The beach has a blow hole at the end of the island which can be seen at mid tide and is a great sight to see. Porth beach is popular with novice surfers and body boarders but be ready for a long walk to the sea at low tide.

Porth Joke Beach A Porth Joke is also known by local people as Polly Joke this gem of a beach is a small attractive cove and is less busy than other nearby beaches. It is a North West facing beach which is a ten to fifteen minute walk from the car park at West Pentire. The path to the beach is unmade but it is fairly accessible. Dogs are allowed on the beach.
Beach Facilities in season - No facilities Beach Access - Take the A3075 Newquay to Perranporth Road and go South towards Crantock. Follow the road to the end of the village, signposted West Pentire/Porth Joke and park in the car park at West Pentire. Postcode TR8 5BQ.
Watergate Bay Beach - Watergate Beach Is situated three miles out of the town of Newquay and is a fifteen minute drive. It is on the coast road towards Padstow and is Newquays most spectacular and biggest beach. It has a long stretch of fine golden sands at the foot of steep cliffs which at low tide turns into a two mile long expanse of sandy beach. It can be reached by following the coastal path from Newquay but be prepared for a minimum 45minute walk. With big rolling waves Watergate Bay is an ideal place for surfing and it is home to the Extreme Academy with lots of exciting sport activities available such as mountain boarding, kite surfing etc. Postcode TR8 4AA

Whipsiderry Beach - Whipsiderry beach is a quiet sandy beach with high cliffs that provide a perfect shelter from the southerly breezes. If you are looking for peace and tranquility then this is the beach to come to as even in high season it is very quiet. The unusual name is derived from the old mining terms Whips and Derrick as this area was involved in mining many years ago. Access is by walking around Perth Island at low tide or via steep concrete steps from the cliff top. There is a serious threat of being cut off by mid or high tides so be sure you know the tide times and be aware of your surroundings. The beach has a large number of caves exposed at low tide.
Beach Facilities in season - There is no Lifeguard service operating at Whipsiderry Beach or any facilities Beach Access - Whipsiderry Beach is located on the outskirts of Newquay past Porth Beach on the B3276 Watergate Road from Newquay to Padstow. As you pass Porth Beach and climb to the top of the hill, Whipsiderry is on your left. There is not a car park but parking should be available along the main road. There is a local bus service.
